I'm Chinese-American and have been searching for solid Chinese food in UWS. The food at Canteen is hands down the best I've had in this neighborhood. Meat and vegetables taste fresh and are cooked well -- e.g., vegetables not soggy, but still crisp and flavorful; meat has a nice sear on the surface but not overcooked in the middle). Especially like the Szechuan Chicken and dumplings (both the fried pork and Shanghai soup versions). Only wish they would deliver a bit faster (usually 30-45 min).

Love Canteen! The food is awesome and fresh, and there are a lot of lighter options. Delivery is always quick, and the soup dumplings actually survive the journey more or less intact. Best Chinese on the UWS

Def the best Chinese food option on the upper west side. The meat they use is significantly higher quality than most Chinese take-out.

This place definitely deserves more then 3 stars. I order here all the time and the food is always tasty and reliable. Definitely one of the best options in this neighborhood.

delivery people have awful attitude. He asked me to sign without giving me the pen and then seemed to be extremely angry when I asked for the pen he had in his hand. After I signed, he left the food on the floor and left, with a haughty attitude. It feels like I owe him something.

I've always had great experiences with the food here, and it remains the favorite Chinese place to order from. The last time I ordered from seamless here, it must have been too close to the wire before closing, because what I got was nothing close to my order. It included shredded spicy chicken mixed with shrimp. Lucky for me, it was delicious, but to play it safe you probably shouldn't surprise anyone with a mixed seafood dish.

Solid. Fast delivery. I am a fan of the Kung pao chicken--it's not breaded--very delicious but it's not heavy, and feels healthy. One thing to point out: it is not spicy, even when it says a dish is on the menu, so ask for extra spicy if you want it!

Excellent taste, I have been looking for great tasting Asian (chinese) food uptown and found it. The service was fast and the food was hot and very tasty!!! I will be ordering again..Mmmm soon. Try the Shrimp Udon******

Occasional delivery mess-ups are inevitable at any restaurant. I maintain that this establishment serves the best Chinese on the UWS. End of story.

Shanghai Soup Dumplings were above par for NYC delivery. The Mongolian Beef was great and the pieces of meat were big and tender. I really liked the Kung Pao Chicken and how the water chestnuts were clearly hand cut rather than out of a can. They should mention the entrees come with rice, as we ordered extra and had way too much. Pretty good order so far. I will definitely order from them again.
