Columbia Cottage

Columbia Cottage is OK if you go there, but DO NOT order it to your home. They disregarded our directions, the food was a bland, greasy, salty, not good for the price. Get Cheapie Chinese if you want cheap chinese, and good chinese if you want good chinese. Columbia Cottage is neither, and a waste of a meal.

I cannot believe how terrible my food was tonite. I ordered Sesame Chicken and it lacked flavor, it was soggy, wasnt crunchy at all and was bathing in a pool of liquid. I also ordered Beef Fried Rice and and it also lacked flavor and the beef was cut too thick which made it difficult to chew. This was my first time ordering from Columbia Cottage and I will NEVER order from there again!!! I spent way too much money thinking this would be better than the corner chinese spot, but I wouldve preferred eating cheap and greasy instead of soggy, unflavorful and expensive!!!

I love their shrimp dumplings SO MUCH but had to stop ordering because the delivery guy was super creepy and tried to stroke my arm when he handed me the food. Looking at other reviews, I see that this seems to be a bit of a serial problem. It's a shame because they're definitely a great option for fast and cheap Chinese.

The food is good (especially general chings chicken) but this review isn't about the food its about the delivery. I placed my order and hopped in the shower I came out dripping wet to open the door for the delivery guy. It was 13 minutes after my order was placed and I live 14 blocks and 1.5 avenues away. This is going to be my go to food when I want it delivered fast!

Food is ok. But delivery guy is seriously creepy. Always stares at me inappropriately and last time kept trying to touch my hand when he was talking to me...ewww....never ordering from here again!!!

I was in the mood for mediocre Chinese food, and this managed to fall short of my low expectations. The chicken with 3 nuts was salty, and not flavorful. The delivery was very quick, but I only live a block away. The delivery guy was rude even though I didn't keep him waiting for even one second.

will never order columbiacottage again. while i was trying to explain why I didn't answer the phone because my cell phone didn't work with good signals these days, the manager just hanged up my phone. i had been patient and realizing that the delivery guy did not have much patience for waiting, everytime i ordered food and they delivered, i was waiting in the lobby, sometimes for more than 15 minutes so that when the delivery man came i picked up the food without letting him wait. Today is the only day i walked away for less than 10 seconds and the delivery man complained when i walked out to meet him. The security people had explained the situation with my phone to columbiacottage delivery man before. it is not that we never communicated. i was very disppointed by being treated by the restaurant and as their long-term customer. very disappointed and will never order food any more. thanks for food service though.

I have been to this restaurant once and ordered delivery twice and all three time the food has been really good. Of course there is some dishes that are better than others, like the green onion/scallion pancakes. Overall, it was a great meal and it said 15-30 mins, it came to my door actually in 30 min. The delivery man was really nice too (I guess just be smile and be nice, it worked for me), hence I don't understand the previous negative reviews. Anyways, I liked the food (I'm also picky about my Chinese food being Asian and all) and highly recommend!

Was disappointed with the ten ingredient pan-fried noodles. They were very salty and had a strange taste (maybe MSG?). The delivery was very quick, though (my food came in ten minutes).

4/5/2010 I'd just like to update my review as well as increase my rating to 5 stars. Here's why: I've ordered from China Chalet more than a few times since my first order in December, and they have been EXCELLENT every, single, time. I LOVE the consistency! Always arrives in 20 minutes or less!!! Astounding. Plus, the food (if you order the not-made-for-American-taste-buds junk) is always seriously, pretty good! WAAAAAY better than Chinese takeout. There aren't many places outside of Chinatown you can get authentic saut?ed fresh spinach or Chinese green leafy vegetables in fresh garlic Chinese style. So healthy and delicious. Really, its a service to the community that we have this food available to us in Morningside Heights!!! Even though I wouldn't give it five stars for food quality, whatever little they are lacking in standing up to the standards of Chinatown freshness and authenticity, they make up for in service, speed, and consistency. 12/26/2009 Wow, impressed! I ordered a pretty big order ($40 worth) and it was delivered piping hot in 25 minutes. Food packaging: A+. The roast whole duck was YUMMY and for $19.95 I think you get a LOT considering. (In Chinatown they charge maybe $15 for a much better whole duck, but we're not in Chinatown.) Dry sauteed string beans were delicious. Roast pork buns were amazing!!! Wish they were a little cheaper though, $1.95 each seems like a lot, especially if you order more than two. Maybe they should price less if you buy more.

We have ordered from here a few times. $8 for an order of broccoli is a little steep but it tastes good. I tried their build your own dish and it was a disaster. Don't recommend it. It was inedible.
