Friend House

I ordered the sesame bean curd, edamame, and crystal shrimp dumplings. The bean curd was deliciously prepared, with large firm blocks of tofu seasoned with just the right amount of sauce and green broccoli. The edamame was also good -- some places oversalt, others undersalt, but this was just right, with large, firm beans. I gobbled them up. The crystal shrimp dumpling isn't something I've ever ordered before, so I didn't know what I was getting. It's a transparent white dough dumpling with a shrimp inside. Not really my personal tastes, but folks seem to like them. I just ate the shrimp out of the dough. After having has such a bad experience with the bean curd dishes elsewhere, I was relieved by Friend House's cooking.

The quality of the food was average but I was very disappointed by the service from Friend House. I had just moved to the neighborhood and live around the corner from the resturant. It was over an hour and 1/2 before the food was delivered even though I had been given a window of 30-45 minutes. In that time period I called twice (after 50 minutes and then a 1/2 hour later) and was assured that the food was out for delivery. The second time I called, they first told me they didn't have my order, then it was out for delivery before finally saying it had yet to be made. I was also charged full price when it finally arrived 20 minutes later - if I was not delirious from hunger at that point I would have contested. I will not be ordering from here again.

Delivery was timely but the food was not good. I ordered their pad thai and was surprised how different it looked from pad thai. It had this bright redish sauce, so strange and not very appetizing. I also ordered their vegetarian hot and sour soup and spicy roll combo which were also not very good. I would not recommend ordering from here.

The delivery man left me waiting an extra hour to deliver my food. Showed up at my door with a really nasty, rude, poor attitude and unfortunately after all that the servings were the size of a pea and tasted horrendously terrible.

THIS PLACE IS AWFUL. dont order the rock shrimp - it is $10.50 for two larger shrimp cut into about 8 tiny pieces - and it tastes like it was dipped in sewer water - it is NOT tempura, it is full fried. The General Tso's chicken is terrible. Not sure how this place got good reviews. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE - this is disgusting food.

Ordered b/c Seamless rating was 5 stars; apparently this is meaningless. The pineapple fried rice literally smelled like the floor of a movie theater. I took one bite and spit it out. My wife somehow ate half and then gave up, worried she would become ill (prior to my taking one bite and spitting it out). The cold sesame noodles appeared to be store-bought green linguine with some kind of bottled peanut sauce squirted on top. The thick slices of nearly over-ripe cucumber were a scant saving grace. The moo-shu chicken, least offensive, seemed like a rough approximation of moo-shu, such as might be made in a junior high home economics class in the early to mid 1980s - which is to say, it didn't seem poisonous, but it was similar to actual moo-shu in superficial appearance only. By the way, the order took about 1/2 longer than the max time it said online that it would take. I think Seamless' review system is somehow flawed if the average is 5 stars; the restaurants must be bribing someone. It is definitely a Seam.

Broad noodles were good, not spicy enough for my liking made them seem somewhat bland. Order time of 1.5 hours makes this a non-starter for deliveries.

How does this place have a 5-star rating when I see mostly 1-star reviews? Ordered at 8:15pm, got the confirmation soon after saying 45-60 minutes. Around 9:30 I started calling but their phone rang and rang and Seamless said the restaurant had closed. So we ordered from somewhere else, got the food, and ate. At 10:45 (that's 2.5 hours after we ordered and after the restaurant had closed), they tried to deliver this. The delivery guy was surprised when I said I didn't want it, and I had to close the door to get him to leave. They are always late - usually an hour to an hour and a half - but this was ridiculous.

How does this place have such great reviews? I've tried ordering twice -- both times it took an hour and a half, and the food was greasy and mushy and tasteless. It's the worst Asian restaurant downtown.

The so-called "Grand Marnier Prawns" turned out to be a congealed mass of breaded plastic strips drowned in a starchy white sauce that tasted more like wood glue than Grand Marnier. When I called to complain, the restaurant insisted that they made a "correct order", and wouldn't do anything about it.
