Max Restaturant is great, they put Rosemary in the Lasagna, which gives it a very nice flavor. Lately though, they've been using too much salt for their dishes. I hope this feedback reaches them.

Disgusting. The $7 "garlic bread" is the most egregious food deal I've ever come across in my entire career as a restaurant goer.

I had the lasagna and the gnocchi and both were impressive. There is a homemade quality to their food that makes you feel like you're getting more than just take-out.

take-out is not as good because food was a little cold, but go to this place in person, i would give them 5/5 in person, awesome food and service

Very good, hearty Italian fare. I've tried the excellent pastas, as well as the breaded chicken dish and the meatballs. Food is generally excellent, although I find their tomato based and meat sauces very salty. Tasty, but they have me reaching for bottle after bottle of water.

I have eaten from Max Restaurant several times and they are extremely hit or miss in terms of food quality. The lasagna, for example, was soggy and so salty that it was inedible. The pasta with lamb sauce had such a gamey lamb flavor that it was also very unappealing. The regular bolognese type sauce is alright but unexceptional. The chicken with tomato and arugula had so much chopped, soggy, warm arugula on it that it was really unappetising. The caprese salad (a "specialty" per Max) is 3 small pieces of mozzarella, 5 smallish slices of tomato, and a sprig of basil. In my last order (ever) from the restaurant, I ordered this salad. For $10, I would expect at least a few more slices of tomato and for the basil to be extremely fresh. This was not the case - the basil was yellowing and had black, rotting spots. When I called the restaurant to complain, I spoke to Max himself. He was argumentative (while constantly insisting that he was not arguing) and told me that the basil is always fresh. When I observed that I was looking at the plate of food with a piece of aging, partially rotten basil, he was totally dismissive. I've never had a NYC restauranteur behave so rudely when faced with issues dealing with food quality. This restaurant 1) has atrocious management/ownership/customer service, 2) served food that was not fresh and partially rotten, and 3) only manages to have certain dishes that are palatable. I recommend eating at Gigigno's, Roc, or Ecco, for example, rather than Max.
