As a long time customer i would have, until today (9/3) always given Mapo Tofu a great review. However, without any notice the restaurant literally cut their portions in HALF, while the prices remain the same. Obviously this is unacceptable, and we wont be ordering from them again in the future. Beware!

Solid Chinese food(especially the Mapo Tofu, which you'd expect),and I've never had the hit or miss service that other users have experienced. Can be a bit spendy though.

My husband and I order from here whenever we're craving Chinese takeout. We usually get the mapo tofu (which is excellent) and a combination of other dishes. They've all been great, and you get a lot of food for your money. On top of that, the delivery is fast! If I had to write one complaint, I'd say that the sauces and vegetables in different dishes all seem pretty similar, so you kind of feel like the dishes all taste the same. But that "same" is good, so that makes it ok! I'd recommend this place for fast Chinese.

This is the only place I would even consider getting Chinese food in the East 30's, and I've been ordering from them for years. They're a little inconsistent, and I'd avoid the lunch rush, but the quality and freshness of their ingredients is unrivaled. I especially recommend the "silken tofu with green house chive" and the won ton soup. And I stay away from the shell fish dishes because the one time I ordered scallops there were itty bitty pieces of shell in my meal which I didn't like, although I guess that makes it 'authentic' Chinese. There are plenty of other 'authentic' options on their menu, if that's your thing. I avoided Chinese food when in Asia because I couldn't seem to order anything that didn't come with chicken feet :( I don't think that would be a problem at Mapo Tofu, but "duck tongue" still seems inhumane to me. BTW, they are totally willing to prepare their namesake dish without the pork.

The Mapo Tofu is super super spicy. When this restuarant lists anythign as being spicy, tkae their word for it, its very spicy. The Kung Pao tofu is delicious. The Crab Meat and Asparagus soup is very good and has a lot more crab chunks in it than your average restaurant.

This place can be a hit or miss. The Ma Paul tofu is AMAZING! The chicken and broc, beef and broc is bland. Their singapore rice noodle still has clumps of curry powder clinging to the noodles and is bland. The fish filet with mixed vegs is pretty good but since they dip the fish in batter and fry it first then sauteed so it tends to be a little soggy when you eat it back in the office. I got my food delivered today and the delivery guy asked if I was chinese. I said yes and then he said something in mandarin that i couldnt quite understand since i am cantonese so I just said "she she". I kept thinking about it because he had this weird look on his face when i said that. As I'm eating my lunch I realized that he said I tipped too little! 15% on delivery is too little??? I would've tipped more if it was severe weather but its a beautiful day and obviously not many people were ordering since he came in 25 mins. Absolutely appalled by this chinese delivery man! Makes me a little ashamed. The restaurant should give him a warning about being rude to customers!

This is, without questions, the best chinese food I've had in NYC (which already says a lot). Not to mention the price, which is absolutely incredible- the food has never ever let me or my girlfriend down. We usually stick to General Tso's Tofu, the cold sesame noodles (which are a MUST if you order from here), the cold cucumber salad- all great. Be careful with the tofu dishes though if you're a veggie- some of them have meat in them!

I've only ordered one thing: the ma po tofu. It is delicious, and sometimes the sichuan peppercorns are more pronounced than others, but it's consistently good. I work a few blocks away, and if I slap an extra buck on the tip they deliver in MINUTES.

There is something wrong with their meat here, I ordered beef chow fun and the meat tasted really bad and it smells too (like it's sitting on the fridge more than 24 hours uncooked). I am positve it is not fresh as I always cook steak at home. I had to throw it out as I was scared to eat it and might get sick of it. This is an honest to goodness review.

The delivery man arrived at our office, took snacks meant for the employees, was caught and told not to take them, yet still walked away with them. These people are thieves. Be warned.
