Umi Japanese Restaurant (DC)

Great first order, terrible second order. First order was delivered within half and hour of placement. However, the second order experience however was terrible. It was 20mins late when delivered. When I called them to check, they said that their delivery man was caught in traffic. It's important to note that the restaurant is a few blocks away from my house. When it finally arrived, the food was cold and they forgot one of the items (that they charged me for). When I called them the second time, they emphasized that they had "...put the item in the bag", and asked me to contact Seamless customer service. I have to note that I tipped generously on both orders. When the Seamless rep contacted them they denied that the order was late or that they had forgotten an item. The Seamless rep (not Umi) gave me a refund for my missing item as well as 20% off my order price. I'm very happy with Seamless' customer service and recommend them without hesitation. Overall, I wouldn't recommend that anyone order from Umi. Non delivery of an item (that has been paid for) is no simple mistake and to not take corrective action but to pass it off (to seamless) means Umi doesn't care about customer satisfaction. Don't order from this restaurant, they are far better places that care about the service they provide and deserving of your money.

Took 1.5 hours for sushi to arrive. Plus their MINIMUM tip online is 20%! Sushi was decent, a little flavorless. Won't be ordering from Umi again.

This will be my first review, but I had to because the 5-star thing might lull people into feeling comfortable with this place's sushi. The sushi that arrived at my place a few nights ago was foul. I had to force down every bite because I was hungry and left over a substantial portion. Old fish, delivered after 60 minutes of waiting. Won't order sushi from here again. Bad even by DC standards.

I order sushi from Umi about 2-3 times a month and consider it pretty good for delivery. They also have decent spring rolls and miso soup.

This is the freshest sushi I've had in DC. I used to think all sushi was the same until I tried this-the quality of the tuna roll and salmon roll were much better than I've had at other local sushi eateries. We will definitely order from Umi again. Also-the sweet potato roll is the best!

Food is alway delicious and the delivery times are generally great. Food a bit more expensive than necessary, but I still keep ordering!

I ordered a the steak Teriyaki. I could tell the food would have been good if it hadn't been freezing cold when it got here. The food took over an hour to arrive. I called to complain and they sent me another order of steak, but no rice which was also cold, which is why I am giving them 2 stars instead of 3. If you charge $30 for lunch it should get there in a reasonable amount of time and it should be warm.

Good Food, Delivery Time Outrageous. The time quoted for delivery was 30-45 minutes to my location. The driver showed up after 1 hour and 20 minutes. Just be prepared for long delivery times.

Since this place opened, I've been consistently impressed with the quality of the sushi--the sashimi, in particular, is notably superior to other comparably-priced options in the neighborhood. And I've found the delivery to be prompt and friendly. Some options seem more reasonably priced than others.

The sushi was very well prepared. The salmon teriyaki was tasty but overdone and dry...probably from continued heating during delivery.
