Delicous! A touch pricy, but the food is heads and tails above any other Mexican in the neighborhood. Quesadillas are so yummy.

Short version? The food is decent but notably overpriced, and the food got to me late and cold. I paid $30 at 8pm on a Tuesday night for ONE tamale ($6) 2 enchiladas with rice and beans ($14) and extra beans ($3). As I'm sure you know, any plain jane Mexican restaurant might cost literally half this. For these prices I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a decently gourmet experience. The biggest hit was the delivery time. 60-75 minutes is already a decently long delivery window. If you charge a delivery fee, have high prices, and it's a Tuesday night at 8pm, I don't think it's unreasonable that if you can't make your delivery window you need to raise it or hire another delivery guy. (Or at least be super understanding on the phone when I call 90 minutes later and offer to make it up to me. Hint: they weren't. They were rude.) Now the food. A little hard to judge since it was pretty chilly. The $6 tamale was a delicious but.. empty tamale shell made with sweet potato, but with the meat on the side. I kind of like a tamale you can pick up and eat with your hands easily for leftovers the next day. I thought for six bucks it might be huge but it's not. The enchiladas, pretty tasty. The pork was very tender. The flavors were... ok. Nothing really special. The rice was little mealy and the "cumin refried black beans" were ok, but kinda weird tasting. I love real soft baked enchiladas and this is the only Mexican place I knew that has them, but cold and overpriced. Ultimately I have to say it's not worth it. Maybe if you live a little closer to Franklin.

Ok, everytime I get an order from Alcatraz I unpack it and think, "that's all?" And then I am again blown away by how well made and delicious it is (and really quite enough, even though the individual tacos can look small). Excellent fish and brisket tacos, and wonderful tamales. Someday they'll be out of what I know, and I'll try other things, and I have a feeling those will be wonderful too. -- franklin ave.

After the long wait I have to admit that the food is good, but who knew Mexican food could be so expensive. Why are they the only ones in this neighborhood who charge an additional $1 for delivery, do they not realize who their audience is? The man answering the phone could stand to learn some manners, or get out of the service industry.

I wouldn't order here again. The food took an hour and twenty minutes to get to my place, which is really no big deal. The issue was that the food wasn't that good. The enchiladas with red sauce had no bite to them. (the red sauce tasted more like Italian tomato sauce than salsa). And the chips with the guac had this weird packing peanut consistency. No thanks, too many good places to eat in NYC to waste your time with this place.

The food here is pretty damn awesome, so it pains me to be negative. but this place can not get their world together when it comes to delivery. I called an hour and a half after placing an order because it hadn't arrived. I spoke with a nice person who told me it went out with 3 other orders and was on the way. Great. All I can think is hire more delivery people and more cooks. I really want this place to be great, but waiting two hours plus for food is not acceptable. Not to mention, the "on the way bit" is total crap. It was at least another 30mins after I called before my food showed up.

Don't order from here! Service RIDICULOUS!!!! Order taken almost 2 hours for delivery. Manager completely rude when we called to find out where the food was, 70min after ordering. Were told its out for delivery. 40 minutes later we called him again and he completely dismissed us, asked if we were calling him a liar and said we shouldn't expect our food within their time limit when they have customers in the restaurant. Yelled about it being at rush hour. I ordered at 5:23pm. Food arrived cold and my dinner wasn't even what I ordered. Went in the garbage can.

Sent wrong food - and the order they sent would have cost 30% less than what I paid for. Gigantic bone in chicken tamale. Nothing interesting about flavors. Would have been overpriced at nearly any price.

Completely agree with Daniel T. When charging a flat delivery fee and already citing a long delivery period, it's amazing how rude this restaurant is when a customer calls 15 minutes past the max wait time (80 minutes) to ask, truly politely, if the order has left yet. Even worse--the guy answering the phone was pretty clearly the manager, and possibly the owner. What a jerk--it really hurt to stop ordering from this place, as the quality was pretty good, but I can't support someone who is nasty just to be nasty.
