Restraunt has taken over 2 hours on a 45min delivery. Chola has no reason for why it took so long and said they can do nothing

I've been ordering from Chola for awhile because their south indian dishes are better than any others in the area. But lately, I don't know whats up. They keep messing up my order, missing things, substituting drinks I didn't ask for. I kept giving them leeway because I do like their food but this was my last order. If you don't mind being disappointed/surprised with your order, then Chola is fine. If you do, then find another restaurant.

The last time I visited Chola I found it to be over-rated and the food was bland, just the South Indian food was good. However, I ordered delivery recently and the food was pretty good. I also went for their weekend brunch which was delicious! I was very surprised. My only complaint with delivery was that the dal was not cooked well and since I requested spicy they dumped green chillies on the top and that was it, it ended up being so spicy that I had to pick out the small chilli pieces while eating. Other than that, I recommend this place especially for their lunch buffet.

These guys are Chola are very careless. I have received wrong dishes (I assumed based on their convenience). Sometimes stuff is missing. If you call them, they are generally very arrogant. Most of the time they just lie (e.g., they will say that the delivery guy has just left and after 30 minutes call again to hear that the food is almost ready to go). Please avoid.

Decent deal for a lunch special-- the Chicken Tikka Masala was flavorful and just creamy enough to my liking, but the chunks of chicken in it were very dry, as if they had been sitting there cooking all day. Rice was delicious and perfectly done. Might order from Chola again, but I will be trying something else next time.

The food is excellent, never had a bad experience and I have eaten here many times. The delivery time is usually within their estimate, very few times it has run over. Only one time I called to complain because they delivered too soon and they went out of their way to be helpful. Only negative thing I can say is that they are a little expensive. And Chola, if you are reading this, can you please add my two favorite dishes you always make for me to the menu? Aloo Gobi Matter Lamb Madras Thank you!

Chola's food is great. The rice is outstanding--full of cardamom pods and other fragrant spices--and their saag paneer is flavorful and dynamic. If there's a fault it's that it isn't always piping hot when I get it, but it's always delicious. A+

Food will surely be good but I'm extremely annoyed by the delivery service. I live 3 floors above the restaurant and scheduled a delivery for 8:30pm because I am working late and prefer not to waste time running up and down stairs. Lame you might say that I ordered delivery from a restaurant that's 3 floors below me (it's a brownstone!). Nonetheless, as of this writing at 8:42pm, they have yet to deliver the food that I ordered to be delivered _AT_ 8:30pm. I even called them at 8:40pm to ask where my food was and they said that they would deliver it immediately but as mentioned, I'm here writing this review at 8:44pm and still no food. Complete and utter failure to get someone to walk up 3 flights of stairs. Complete and utter failure. A follow up: it turns out that Chola by Tadka is Chola food from the Tadka restaurant on 53rd b/t 2nd and 3rd - 5 blocks from the Chola on 58th. This address and phone number should be reflected in the restaurant's listing on SeamlessWeb. I finally got my food at 8:55pm, after 2 phone calls and 25 minutes after the scheduled delivery time.

If I could give 0 starts to this restaurant, I would. I normally don't write reviews unless I feel very strongly about my experience and this is certainly the case with Chola (brought to you by Tadka). I recently ordered the Lunch special from this restaurant - Chicken Korma and it comes with Naan, rice and Daal. The Korma tasted like bland soup. I had specifically asked for it to be spicy and it was not spicy at all, bland as hell and there were 3 large pieces of chicken. The chicken pieces felt like rubber in my mouth. And best of all naan bread was uncooked! I haven't eaten the rice and the daal, but I have quite low expectations. I am surprised in city like New York, where there are millions of food choices (Indian or otherwise), a restaurant like Chola brought to you by tadka can stay in business with this poor quality food...or well I hope not for long.

BE WARNED: the "brought to you by tadka" means YOU ARE NOT GETTING YOUR FOOD FROM CHOLA. I placed an order and after waiting 1hour 10 minutes (like a few others) called Chola and was told to call a different number entirely. its been 1hour30minutes and still the food hasnt arrived. BE WARNED

I've ordered from Chola well over a dozen times and the food is just so memorable that I keep coming back. It is mature and sophisticated as well as balanced with many subtle flavors that aren't found in your typical Indian fare. My favorite dish is the Lata Shetty's Coondapur Chicken. Tender morsels of chicken in every bite and the most delicous, delicate coconut sauce I've ever had, with a subtle heat from the dried chilies that takes time to develop in your mouth. I highly recommend it. The great thing about the restaurant, though, is that everything is fantastic so you can't really go wrong. The thought that was put into the dishes is evident, even the rice is spectacular, beautifully scented with herbs and spices and a cinnamon stick. Alone it is great, but combined with the other food it adds a whole new dimension to the food. There are also the little things like the complimentary desserts and side dishes that come with your food, which stand out on their own. Just be aware that you will always get tons of food and one dish is enough to easily feed two people.

The best thing about Chola cuisine is that on the NY Indian food scene, it is unique. While Chola offers the usual humdrum fare the all Indian restaurants in the U.S. offer (with eyes closed, I could reel off the 25 or so standard dishes on such menus - biryanis, tandooris, tikka masalas - need I go on?). But Chola is different - they offer all kinds of interesting South Indian non-veg cuisine. Their street snacks are also the best I've had in a while. Only thing is Chola is slightly pricier than the rest. Still, I say it is worth it!
